Rhizome slightly stout, 5-6 mm thick, densely brown sheathed. The pseudobulbs are dense on the rhizomes, 6-7 mm apart, nearly oblong, slightly narrower to both ends, 2-3 cm long, 5-7 mm thick, dull after drying, with two leaves at the top and sheaths at the base ; sheath brown, 1. 5-2 cm long.

Leaves oblong-oblanceolate, leathery, 11.5-13.5cm long, 1.3-2cm wide, apex obtuse or acute, base narrow as stalk ; the petiole is 1-2 cm long.

The scape, together with the young pseudobulbs and leaves, emanates from the rhizome near the base of the old pseudobulbs. It is 12-14 cm long. At the beginning, it is mostly sheathed and only extends out of the inflorescence. Racemes 4-6 cm long, usually with 2 flowers ; bracts oblong lanceolate, membranous, more or less boat-like, 2-2.5 cm long, often surrounding pedicels and ovaries ; pedicels and ovary nearly equal to bracts ; unknown flower color, diameter of 4 cm ; sepals suboblong, 2.5-2.8 cm long, 7-9 mm wide, apex acuminate or nearly short-tailed, with 5 veins ; petals linear, 2. 2-2. 4 cm long, 2. 5-3 mm wide ; lip flap ovate, 2.5 - 2.8 cm long, 3 - lobed, base depressed ; lateral lobes semiovate, nearly entire ; middle lobe ovate, 1-1.3 cm long, 6-7 mm wide ; there are 3 longitudinal ridges on the lip plate, extending to the base of the middle lobe, and the central one is more or less folded or irregularly folded ( not seen by us ) ; pistils forward curved, ca. 2 cm long, with narrow wings on both sides.

Remarks :

In 1995, we reported that Coelogyne fuscescens was collected from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province ( see the above citation ). The specimen ( Tsi 91-691 ) was collected from Puwen, which is very close to Simao. The three longitudinal ridges on the lip of this specimen have no mastoid, and the central one is irregularly folded, which is different from C.fuscescens and its variant var, brunnea. However, due to the lack of sufficient specimens for comparison, and the wide distribution and unclear boundaries of this complex ( including C.assamica ), it is still temporarily classified as this variant. It was first reported in China based on a specimen ( Henry 12964 ) from Simao. Later, Seidenf aden [ Dansk Bot.Ark.29 ( 4 ) : 32.1975 ] believed that it should be classified as C.assamica. But the difference between these three entities is too subtle to distinguish. Perhaps they should be considered more reasonable as the same species. It is only expedient here.
