黄喉石斛Dendrobium signatum 

Epiphytic plant, Burma, Laos. 

 

 

 

This kind of plant is extremely similar to the golden hairpin and the twisted petal, but the difference lies in the flower shape. Different from the twisted petal, the leaf sheath has purple spots, and the new stem is more obvious. Different from Dendrobium nobile flower color.

Stem : succulent stem is thick, rod-shaped slightly flat, the upper and middle parts of the stem are the thickest, gradually tapering down, and suddenly expanding into a spherical shape at the base ; stems enveloped by gray or white persistent membranous leaf sheaths, or leaf sheath residues torn fibrous.

Leaves : Leaves are two rows of alternate, leathery, nearly oblong, the tip is slightly blunt and unequal split, length of about 11-8cm, width of about 1-2cm, bright glossy leaf surface and midrib depression, leaf back slightly uplift ; leaf base with stem sheath.

Inflorescences : raceme, drawn from nodes above the middle of the stem, 1 or more inflorescences, 1 to 3 flowers opposite leaves ; stem length 1.2-1.5 cm, stem base is nearly white membranous sheath wrapped pedicels together with ovary length of about 5.5 cm, bracts membranous ; flowers ca. 6 cm in diameter, sepals and petals white, middle sepals long lanceolate, apex obtuse ; petals long oval, apex acute ; lateral sepals long lanceolate, apex acute ; lip flap suborbicular, base clawed, anterior funnel-shaped, margin white, middle pale yellow - green, posterior inward curled tubular, pale yellow - green ; central yellow. Stamen column light yellow, cap white, short cylindrical. 

 

 

 

Flowering : May-June.
